For years, Ram has been one of the most unusual fighters in Re:ZERO.

She has always had the talent.

The problem was that she lost the power that once made her extraordinary.

Episode 84 finally changes that.

With Subaru supporting her through his new Authority, Ram is able to draw on a portion of the strength she lost when her horn was broken.

And she immediately puts it to use against one of the most dangerous enemies in the story.

Ram vs. Lye

The episode, appropriately titled “Ram,” puts the spotlight exactly where fans have been waiting for it.

Ram faces Lye Batenkaitos, the Sin Archbishop of Gluttony.

Their confrontation is not simply another battle in the middle of the Priestella conflict.

It carries years of character history with it.

Ram was once known as an oni prodigy.

But after losing her horn, she could no longer access the enormous power she possessed as a child.

What remains is the Ram viewers have become familiar with: sharp-tongued, confident and extremely capable, but forced to fight without the full strength she once had.

Episode 84 gives us a glimpse of what happens when that limitation is partially removed.

Subaru's Role Changes Everything

Ram doesn't simply regain her old abilities on her own.

Subaru's new Authority, Cor Leonis, becomes an important part of the fight.

The Authority allows Subaru to shoulder the burdens of others, giving Ram the support she needs to push her body further.

That creates an interesting contrast between the two characters.

Subaru isn't winning the battle by overpowering Lye himself.

Instead, his ability allows someone else to fight at her full potential.

For Ram, that support is especially significant because her greatest strength has always been something she has been unable to access completely.

The Horn Changes the Fight

The most important thing about Ram's return to power isn't simply that she becomes stronger.

It changes how she approaches the fight.

Her movements become more aggressive, and the battle begins to look much less one-sided than it might have seemed before.

Lye is still an extremely dangerous opponent.

But Ram is no longer fighting like someone trying to compensate for a missing part of herself.

She is finally getting closer to the person she could have become if she had never lost her horn.

And that makes the confrontation much more personal.

Ram isn't discovering a new power.

She's recovering a part of the power she lost.

Then Lye Goes After Rem

The battle takes another turn when Lye realises that continuing to fight Ram directly is becoming increasingly dangerous.

Instead of simply trying to overpower her, he moves towards another target.

Rem.

That decision immediately raises the stakes.

Ram may be fighting for herself, but her sister's presence changes the emotional weight of everything happening around her.

The confrontation therefore becomes more than a test of strength.

It becomes a question of whether Ram can protect the person who matters most to her while dealing with an enemy who knows exactly how dangerous her abilities can become.

Why This Episode Matters for Ram

Ram has spent much of Re:ZERO living in the shadow of what she used to be.

She was once considered a prodigy among the oni.

Then one event changed everything.

Her horn was destroyed, her power disappeared and the version of Ram that remained had to learn how to survive without the strength she once possessed.

Episode 84 briefly opens that door again.

It doesn't erase what happened to her.

It doesn't suddenly return everything to normal.

Instead, it shows what Ram can still do when she is given the opportunity to reach deeper into the power that remains within her.

That makes the fight against Lye feel like an important character moment rather than simply another action sequence.

And Emilia Has Her Own Problem

While Ram is dealing with Lye, Emilia has reached the first floor of the tower and encountered Volcanica, one of the three legendary figures of Lugunica.

The Divine Dragon isn't exactly behaving as expected.

Instead, Volcanica repeatedly says the same words, leaving Emilia to begin the final “test” under extremely strange circumstances.

So even while Ram's battle is escalating, the story is quietly setting up another major confrontation.

Two separate situations.

Two very different kinds of danger.

And both could have enormous consequences for what comes next.

Ram's fight isn't finished yet

Episode 84 gives Ram one of her biggest moments in the series so far, but the situation remains dangerous.

Lye is still involved.

Rem remains vulnerable.

And Subaru's Authority is being pushed into a role that could prove just as important as Ram's restored strength.

For a series that constantly asks how much a character is willing to sacrifice for someone else, Ram's return to power arrives at exactly the right moment.
