Bookworm Part 4 Is Coming
Rozemyne's next chapter has officially been set in motion.
Just one day after Ascendance of a Bookworm Part 3: Adopted Daughter of an Archduke finished its television run, the anime announced that Part 4 is in production with Wit Studio returning as the animation studio.
The timing could hardly be more direct.
Part 3 ended with Rozemyne preparing to leave for the Royal Academy.
Now we know that the anime will follow her there.
Wit Studio Returns
Wit Studio will once again animate the series.
The studio has been attached to Ascendance of a Bookworm since the anime began in 2019, making its return for Part 4 less of a surprise than it might initially seem.
Wit is also known for productions such as SPY x FAMILY and the first three seasons of Attack on Titan.
For Bookworm, however, its job is moving into a very different stage of Rozemyne's life.
The Royal Academy arc is about to begin.
Part 3 Already Set the Direction
The announcement comes immediately after the conclusion of Part 3.
Rozemyne's journey has changed dramatically since she was simply a young girl obsessed with books.
She has become the adopted daughter of an archduke and now has responsibilities far beyond her original dream of creating books.
The Part 3 finale ended with Rozemyne teleporting away towards the Royal Academy.
Her farewell was simple:
“Well then, I'm off.”
It turns out that wasn't just the end of a season.
It was the beginning of the next major stage of the story.
Welcome to the Royal Academy
The Royal Academy represents a major change for Rozemyne.
Instead of remaining primarily within the territory where she has spent most of her time, she will now enter an environment where nobles from across the country gather.
That means new relationships.
New rivalries.
New rules.
And, naturally, more opportunities for Rozemyne to cause problems without necessarily realising how unusual her behaviour appears to everyone else.
Her love of books remains at the centre of everything.
But the Royal Academy gives that obsession a much larger environment in which to develop.
The Anime Isn't Showing Everything Yet
Interestingly, the Part 4 announcement is still extremely limited.
Wit Studio has been confirmed.
The Royal Academy arc is confirmed.
But the production has not yet revealed a premiere window.
There is also no confirmed new director, series composer, cast announcement or key visual accompanying the announcement.
That means fans shouldn't assume that the staff from Part 3 will automatically return.
The previous season was directed by Yoshiaki Iwasaki, with Mariko Kunisawa handling series composition, Aiko Minowa working on character designs and Michiru composing the music.
Whether those staff members return for Part 4 has not been announced.
The Story Has Plenty to Adapt
There is no shortage of material for the new anime.
The Royal Academy section is already covered extensively in the original light novels, giving the television adaptation a substantial amount of story to work with.
For English-speaking readers who don't want to wait for the anime, the Part 4 novels are already available through J-Novel Club.
That also means some fans already know what awaits Rozemyne.
For everyone else, the anime has another major part of her journey ahead.
And Rozemyne at school is going to be interesting
The Royal Academy isn't simply another location.
It puts Rozemyne among other nobles her age while she continues trying to balance her interests with the expectations placed upon her position.
That combination is exactly where her personality becomes particularly entertaining.
Rozemyne is incredibly knowledgeable in some areas.
Completely unaware of social consequences in others.
And almost dangerously enthusiastic whenever books are involved.
Putting that personality into a prestigious academy filled with nobles is a recipe for trouble.
Part 3 Ends, Part 4 Begins
The timing of the announcement makes the transition unusually clean.
Part 3 has just finished.
Rozemyne has departed for the Royal Academy.
And Part 4 has now been confirmed.
There is no need for fans to wonder whether the anime will continue her story.
It will.
The only major question now is when.
No premiere date or broadcast window has been announced yet, so the next major update will likely focus on the production staff, cast, visual material or release schedule.
For now, one thing is certain:
Rozemyne is going to the Royal Academy.
And Wit Studio is going with her.
