i☆Ris Sets Its Final Curtain for 2027

Some anime songs become part of a generation's memories. For fans of PriPara, i☆Ris has been responsible for plenty of them.

Now, the five-member voice-actor idol group has announced that its activities will end at the close of 2027.

The announcement was published on October 11, with the group and its staff explaining that the decision followed repeated discussions about the future of the unit and the individual members.

The timing is significant. i☆Ris will reach its 15th anniversary in 2027, making the decision to conclude activities at the end of that year a deliberate milestone rather than a sudden cancellation of its current work.

There is still time before the final curtain.

But for fans who have followed the group through anime performances, music releases and concerts, the news marks the beginning of a farewell year.

Fifteen Years of Music and Anime

i☆Ris was formed in 2012 after its members passed an anison vocal audition organised by Avex and 81 Produce.

The group built a career that connected two worlds: voice acting and idol performance.

That combination became especially visible through PriPara, the anime franchise in which members of i☆Ris voiced major characters and performed songs associated with the series.

For anime fans, that meant the group wasn't simply a musical act appearing outside the shows they watched. Its members were also part of the characters and stories that brought those shows to life.

The connection between performance and voice acting helped give i☆Ris a distinct place in the anime music scene.

Over the years, the group released singles, performed live and continued working across music and animation projects.

Its history also includes a change in membership: Azuki Shibuya left the group in 2021, after which the remaining five members continued together.

That five-member lineup is the one now preparing for the final year.

The Decision Was Made Together

The announcement may be difficult for fans to accept, but the group has been clear about how the decision was reached.

According to the official statement, members and staff began discussing the group's future after its tenth anniversary in 2022. Those conversations continued from the previous year before everyone agreed to conclude activities at the end of 2027.

The statement frames the decision around the future of the group and the individual members.

That matters because it distinguishes the announcement from a sudden breakup caused by a single public dispute.

The official message presents the ending as a collective decision, with the members intending to continue performing and expressing their gratitude throughout the remaining period.

It is a planned conclusion to a long-running chapter.

And the 15th anniversary gives the group a clear point at which to bring that chapter to a close.

A Farewell Is Not Happening Tomorrow

Although the announcement has understandably created sadness among fans, i☆Ris is not ending its activities immediately.

The group has the rest of 2026 and all of 2027 ahead of it.

Its official schedule includes the i☆Ris 14th Anniversary Live – FANTASISTA, scheduled for November 3, 2026.

That means the group is still preparing to perform, release music and meet its audience before the final year arrives.

The members have also encouraged fans to spend that remaining time with them.

Rather than treating the announcement as a reason to stop, the message asks supporters to keep creating memories together.

That is an important distinction.

There is a difference between learning that a favourite group will eventually end and watching it disappear without warning. i☆Ris has given its audience time to prepare for the farewell — and time to celebrate what remains.

Why PriPara Fans May Feel This One

For many viewers, PriPara is the strongest link between i☆Ris and anime.

The franchise made the relationship between its voice cast and its music especially visible, with the members contributing both performances and character voices.

That connection can make a group's ending feel more personal than the conclusion of an ordinary music project.

Anime fans don't always separate the performer from the character they have come to love. A voice, an opening theme or a familiar performance can become inseparable from memories of watching a series.

i☆Ris has been part of that experience for fans across multiple years.

Its members have also continued their individual careers, so the end of the group does not automatically mean the end of their work as voice actors or solo performers.

The announcement specifically concerns i☆Ris as a unit.

Fans should not interpret it as confirmation that every member is retiring from entertainment.

One More Year to Make It Count

The most emotional part of the announcement is also the simplest: the group still has time left.

Fifteen years is a long run for an idol unit, particularly one balancing music with voice acting and other individual commitments.

The members have acknowledged that fans may feel sad, while emphasising that they want to make the remaining period meaningful.

That creates a different atmosphere around the upcoming performances.

A concert that might previously have been another anniversary celebration can now become part of a limited run of shared experiences. A familiar song may carry a little more weight. A reunion with the group may feel like an opportunity fans won't want to postpone.

There is no need to turn every appearance into a farewell ceremony just yet.

But the announcement gives those appearances a new context.

The countdown has started, and the group wants its supporters to be part of the final chapter.

The Final Curtain Is Still Ahead

i☆Ris has spent years building a career at the intersection of anime, music and live entertainment.

Its conclusion at the end of 2027 will mark the end of the group as fans currently know it, but it does not erase the work that brought it to this point.

The songs will remain. The anime characters will remain. The performances fans remember will remain part of the group's history.

For now, i☆Ris is asking supporters to stay with it until the very end.

The final curtain may already have a date, but the story isn't over yet.

Why anime characters become dramatically stronger after suffering major losses

True power demands a tax paid only in the currency of absolute ruin. A catastrophic defeat doesn't just break an anime character—it forces a total rewrite. Stripped of complacency and raw talent, absolute desperation transforms their grief into a razor-sharp focus. They don't just heal; they rebuild from the marrow out.
