Edgerunners 2 Takes Over Night City

Night City has a new crew to break, and this time, the story belongs to a different set of outlaws.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 premieres on Netflix today, October 20, 2026. The new instalment contains 10 episodes, all released together, giving fans the chance to experience its complete story without waiting for a weekly rollout.

Produced by CD PROJEKT RED in collaboration with Studio TRIGGER, the series returns to the brutal universe of Cyberpunk 2077. But this is not simply a continuation of David Martinez's journey. It introduces new characters, new conflicts and another group of people trying to survive in a city that rarely gives anyone a second chance.

A New Crew, A Different Kind of Nightmare

The original Edgerunners followed David as he transformed from an ordinary student into a mercenary fighting to survive in Night City. His story became one of the franchise's most memorable anime tragedies, largely because its action was tied to a painful question: how much of yourself can you sacrifice before there is nothing left?

The sequel approaches Night City through a fresh group of characters.

One of its central figures is Weak Kingsley, once known as King, a veteran edgerunner who now lives in the shadow of his former reputation. His circumstances suggest a story about what happens when the world moves on from someone who once mattered.

Then there is D, a nomad netrunner pursuing revenge against those responsible for destroying his clan. His search brings him dangerously close to corporate secrets that were never meant to be uncovered.

Their paths form part of a wider story about family, obsession, legacy and the way people try to make their lives mean something in a violent world.

The change in cast gives the sequel room to stand on its own. New viewers can approach it as a separate story, while returning fans can enjoy another perspective on the same unforgiving city.

The New Faces of Night City

The sequel's characters offer different reasons to keep watching.

  • Weak Kingsley: A once-renowned mercenary struggling with life after losing the chrome that defined his former career.
  • D: A skilled netrunner driven by revenge, whose investigation takes him towards dangerous corporate secrets.
  • Roman Carax: A young cinephile fascinated by recording real stories in a world where cinema has lost its place.
  • Talia Yang: A fiercely independent character shaped by her upbringing among corporate elites and her experiences with the Maelström gang.

Roman's presence is especially interesting because his interest in documenting other people's lives adds another dimension to the story. In a setting where reputation, image and violence can determine who gets remembered, the act of recording someone's story could become more than a hobby.

Talia, meanwhile, comes from a very different background. Her relationship with corporate privilege and gang culture puts her between worlds that are often in conflict.

These are not simply replacements for the first series' cast. They bring their own motivations, grudges and personal histories into the story.

Studio TRIGGER Returns

Studio TRIGGER is back to animate the new instalment alongside CD PROJEKT RED, the company behind the Cyberpunk 2077 game.

The sequel is directed by Kai Ikarashi, who directed the original series' sixth episode, "Girl on Fire". Ichigo Kanno serves as lead character designer, while Bartosz Sztybor returns to the creative team as showrunner, story writer and producer. Masahiko Otsuka is also involved in the screenplay.

That returning creative connection matters. The new series has the opportunity to preserve the franchise's distinctive mix of frantic action, striking visual design and emotional consequences while giving the new cast its own identity.

The official description promises an even rawer and more brutal take on the dark future. Whether that translates into a stronger emotional impact will depend on how effectively the series connects its violence to the people caught inside it.

All 10 Episodes Arrive Together

Unlike a traditional weekly anime broadcast, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is being released as a complete 10-episode season.

That means viewers can follow the entire storyline at their own pace, whether they prefer to watch one episode at a time or experience the story over a single weekend.

For a series built around intertwined lives and escalating consequences, the complete release also makes it easier to follow the relationships between characters without a long wait between episodes.

Release details:

  • Premiere: October 20, 2026
  • Episodes: 10
  • Platform: Netflix
  • Animation: Studio TRIGGER
  • Setting: The world of Cyberpunk 2077
  • Format: Standalone story with a new cast

The global release schedule lists a midnight Pacific Time launch, which corresponds to 8:00 a.m. in Nigeria. Availability may vary by region, so check Netflix if the series is not yet appearing in your catalogue.

Can It Match the First Edgerunners?

The first series left a difficult standard to meet. Its story worked because the spectacular action never completely hid the vulnerability of the people involved. The city could make its characters look powerful, but it could not protect them from every consequence of their choices.

The sequel has a different challenge. It needs to make audiences care about an unfamiliar crew without relying entirely on nostalgia for David and his companions.

Weak's struggle with his past, D's pursuit of revenge and Roman's desire to document real lives provide several ways into that question. Each character appears to be chasing something that Night City may not allow them to keep.

The key will be whether their stories feel personal rather than merely serving as excuses for another round of spectacular violence.

A new cast also means the sequel can explore corners of the setting that the original series approached differently. Familiar streets do not have to produce familiar outcomes.

Welcome Back to Night City

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 arrives with a complete season, a fresh cast and another story about people trying to find meaning in a city built to consume them.

There is no need to follow David's footsteps for this new crew to make an impression. Their choices, mistakes and rivalries will have to define the sequel on their own.

The episodes are now available on Netflix according to the announced release schedule. The next question is whether this new chapter can make Night City feel as unforgettable as it did the first time.
