EAT-MAN Returns With a New Anime After 28 Years

A cult classic is coming back.

EAT-MAN is officially getting a completely new anime titled EAT-MAN The Over Order, marking the franchise's first new anime production since 1998.

The announcement was made on September 10, 2026, alongside a teaser video, new visual and production details.

Bolt Crank Is Back

The new anime once again follows Bolt Crank, a mysterious adventurer who travels around the world accepting different jobs.

But Bolt has an ability that makes him unlike almost any other anime protagonist.

He can eat metal and reproduce weapons from his body.

A simple screw, piece of machinery or other metal object can therefore become something much more dangerous once Bolt gets his hands on it.

And despite possessing such a bizarre ability, Bolt remains an extremely mysterious character.

He rarely talks about his past or explains what he truly wants.

The Original Creator Is Writing It

One of the biggest reasons fans are paying attention to The Over Order is the involvement of Akihito Yoshitomi, the original creator of EAT-MAN.

Yoshitomi is personally handling the scripts and original design concepts for the new anime.

That gives the project a direct connection to the original manga rather than simply using the franchise name for another adaptation.

The new story will follow Bolt as he continues travelling from place to place, encountering different people, mysteries and incidents along the way.

The Original Voice Actor Returns

There's another major reunion.

Masashi Ebara, who originally voiced Bolt Crank in the previous anime adaptations, is returning to play the character again.

That means the new series will have the same Japanese voice behind Bolt nearly three decades after his first anime appearance.

For longtime fans, hearing Ebara return as Bolt may be one of the most exciting parts of the announcement.

A New Production Team

The anime is being produced by Studio Cab.

Shunji Oga is directing, while Satoshi Hirayama is handling character designs.

The teaser is deliberately short, but it immediately shows Bolt using his unusual ability.

He picks up a screw, eats it and then produces a massive weapon.

It's a very simple scene, but it perfectly reminds viewers what makes EAT-MAN different.

What Is The Over Order About?

The new anime follows Bolt as he continues taking on jobs across a world filled with different cultures, locations and conflicts.

Along the way, he encounters people who have lost something, people trying to protect something and mysteries connected to the world's hidden past.

The story appears to retain the wandering, episodic nature that made EAT-MAN distinctive while introducing a completely new chapter for Bolt.

Why This Return Matters

The original EAT-MAN manga ran from 1996 to 2003, while two anime adaptations were produced in the late 1990s.

However, those earlier anime were released while the manga was still running.

The new project therefore represents the franchise's first completely new anime production in 28 years.

It also arrives after the manga's original run and its later sequel, giving Yoshitomi an opportunity to revisit Bolt with decades of experience behind the story.

No Release Date Yet

For now, EAT-MAN The Over Order does not have a confirmed premiere date.

The production announcement has only revealed the title, teaser, staff and returning voice actor.

More information about the release schedule, additional cast and streaming platforms is expected later.

But one thing is already certain:

Bolt Crank is back.

And after 28 years, EAT-MAN is getting another chance to introduce its strange sci-fi world to a completely new generation.
